Feeling Guilty Doesn't Mean You're Wrong

Hi! I'm Stella
As a recovering people pleaser, it's hard for me to face other people's disappointment. I do it. But it's hard. I still feel guilty. Even when I know I'm doing the right thing.
Sometimes, oftentimes, they aren't even as disappointed as I imagined them being - if at all.
In my book, The Work Happiness Method: Master the 8 Skills to Career Fulfillment, I go into detail about why some of us aim to please. I share research about how it's an automatic response from the nervous system.
Not everyone struggles with this, but if you do... the good news is that you can change and so can your brain. Learning how to set boundaries is a key inner skill to being successful, happy, and to preventing burnout. It's knowing how to discern, prioritize, and have the courage to say no.
Saying no is saying yes to something more important. It's creating space for your values, wellbeing, or whatever else you want to flourish.

As for that guilt...it doesn't always mean you're wrong, it could mean you're trying something new. It's uncomfortable to disappoint someone even if it's right. Your body may still be rewiring itself to cope with this new way of working, of making conscious vs automatic decisions to please everyone.
Writing the chapter on How to Set Healthy Boundaries was one of the most grueling. It took me over four months. Now I realize, it was teaching me as much as I was hoping to teach.
With much love,
Stella
